October is the official inauguration of all things fall, spooky, and fun. Even more importantly, however, this month is also dedicated to raising awareness for breast and dental health. As October is recognized as National Dental Hygiene Month, in addition to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Masterpiece Dental Studio is doing our part by raising awareness for dental hygiene and appreciating dental hygienists all month long. What Does a Dental Hygienist Do?
Probably more than you realize! Masterpiece’s resident hygienist, Rita “Eagle Eyes” Vascimini, slips on her magnification loupes and headlight to give her patients the best care each and every day. During each patient visit, Rita updates a patient’s medical history, screens for tooth decay and oral cancer, and examines the health of the entire mouth, including teeth, gums and bone. Not to mention, as our office’s dental hygienist, she also completes regular cleanings and advises patients on the best home care for their needs at each appointment. Each dental hygienist and dentist work as a team to provide the best care for every single patient who enters the office.
Dental hygienists don’t just give the same recommendations or use the same treatment for every patient that comes in for an exam. These talented professionals are continually making numerous health assessments as they examine each mouth, and all recommendations are individualized to improve every unique patient’s oral health.
How to Make Your Dental Hygienist Happy
What’s the best way to show appreciation for your dental hygienist? Look out for your oral health at home! By flossing every day, brushing for two minutes, and using a mouth rinse, you will make your hygienist’s job much easier when you come in for your next appointment. Every dental hygienist appreciates knowing their recommendations were followed and will love to hear that you are doing your part to improve your oral health.
